Summary
The Global Medical Affairs Director, Pipeline Programs EMEA will provide pipeline support for Insmed’s pipeline products in the EMEA region and as such oversee all pipeline related activities in close collaboration with the Global Medical Affairs lead, clinical operations, clinical development, HEOR, Market Access, Commercial and other relevant stakeholders. This role requires cross-functional, regional, and strategic alignment. The successful candidate will implement the medical strategy and be involved in evidence generation, and external engagement within EMEA.
Responsibilities
Medical Strategy & Execution
- Chip in to the development and lead the implementation of the global Medical Strategy for pipeline assets/indications in EMEA, ensuring alignment with ongoing and planned trials.
- Collaborate with Global Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, EMEA Clinical Operations, EMEA HEOR, and local medical leadership teams to elevate study implementation and planning.
- Develop and complete pre-launch and launch strategies for new indications across the EMEA region in partnership with global colleagues.
- Ensure awareness, integration, and prioritization of key tactics within the EMEA pipeline strategy team and global medical strategy team
- Build external relationships with key medical authorities in support of the overall medical strategy.
- Chip in to the overall global evidence generation plans to ensure sufficient EMEA input and aligned overarching strategies.
- Identify gaps and opportunities related to new indications, bringing to bear insights from internal and external sources to optimize study design and execution.
- Provide strategic input into integrated evidence plans to improve the value proposition for Insmeds pipeline products.
- Represent the EMEA needs to the global medical strategy team and represent the global strategy to EMEA team to ensure awareness and alignment.
- Strong preference for a candidate who has a strong background in respiratory diseases, and in particular pulmonary hypertension (PAH and/or PH-ILD) or fibrotic lung diseases.
Regulatory & Compliance Responsibilities
- Actively chip in to the planning and administration of clinical development activities, including submissions for Investigational New Drug (IND) and New Drug Application (NDA) approvals.
- Support interactions with regulatory agencies, providing medical leadership in discussions and documentation preparation.
Cross-functional Collaboration & Leadership
- Engage with cross-functional teams, including Market Access, Commercial, Regulatory affairs, HEOR, Medical Operations and Global Teams, to align medical strategies with broader company objectives.
- Provide medical insights to payer collaborators and support reimbursement strategies in collaboration with Market Access and HEOR teams.
- Coordinate the implementation of medical affairs practices and systematic information gathering to assess new indications, patient pathways, diagnostic practices, and management strategies.
- Represent Insmed as a medical leader in pipeline programs and collaborate with key collaborators to drive medical strategies.
Clinical Development & Scientific Exchange
- Collaborate with regional clinical development and clinical operations teams to support Phase II and Phase III clinical trials, ensuring timely and efficient study execution.
- Facilitate scientific discussions, strengthen relationships with investigators, and gather insights to support recruitment and participation in clinical trials.
- Identify, establish, and maintain relationships with Leaders With A Point Of View (TLs) to engage in scientific exchange and data dissemination.
- Support site selection and patient recruitment for future clinical trials by providing recommendations to the Clinical Operations team.
Medical Training & Leadership
- Ensure internal medical training on key relevant pipeline data.
- Oversee regional training programs for local medical teams, ensuring alignment with Insmed’s broader medical strategy.
- Guide the development of TL engagement strategies, enhancing scientific discussions and partnerships.
- Serve as a mentor and leader for internal medical teams, providing strategic guidance and support.
Medical Education & Communication
- Attend key regional congresses and meetings to gather insights, stay updated on emerging science and provide post-conference updates to internal teams.
- Provide medical leadership to regional pipeline training programs for field-based teams, preparing staff for customer interactions.
- Collaborate with global publication and scientific communication teams to ensure EMEA-specific needs are incorporated into publication plans.
- Support the review and development of scientific materials, including abstracts, posters and publications, ensuring alignment with medical strategy.
- Ensure effective medical communication strategies that align with broader company goals and scientific objectives.
Qualifications, Experience, Education & Background
- Advanced degree or experience in a medical or scientific field (MD, PharmD experience, or PhD) is a requirement.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least 5 years in a Medical Affairs role.
- Strong expertise in rare and/or specialty diseases, clinical research and medical strategy development.
- Experience in leading cross-functional medical teams and influencing strategic decision-making.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Extensive knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations and industry standards.
- Confirmed leadership experience with the ability to handle and mentor cross-functional teams in a matrix organization
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex medical information to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate insights from scientific data.
- Experience in project management, with the ability to oversee multiple initiatives simultaneously.
- Established relationships with TLs and clinical authorities in relevant therapeutic areas.
- Experience in medical information and education, including development of training materials for internal and external audiences.
- Ability to integrate US and EMEA market insights into global medical strategy.
