The Role

As an Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the Empresa’s financial data across the entire group, which currently includes entities in Portugal, in UK and in USA. You will lead the group accounting function, implement and maintain strong internal controls, and drive continuous improvements in accounting processes and systems.

This role requires deep technical accounting expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a strategic mindset to support the organization’s financial health, compliance, and decision-making in a multi-entity, international environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the group accounting function, ensuring effective team performance and operational excellence.
  • Oversee all accounting operations for the group, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting across entities.
  • Ensure consistency in accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls across the group, aligned with group standards and local statutory requirements.
  • Manage, coordinate and review month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes at group and local entity level.
  • Prepare, review, and present group consolidated financial statements to senior leadership.
  • Prepare year-end financial statements report at group and local entity level.
  • Contribute to budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis at both group and entity level, in collaboration with Finance and business teams.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS), tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, tax authorities, banks, and other financial institutions in all jurisdictions where the group operates.
  • Provide financial insights and strategic guidance to senior management.
  • Oversee cash flow management, balance sheet integrity, and financial risk assessment for the group.
  • Strong background in implementing, improving, and optimizing accounting systems and internal controls.
  • Experience leveraging automation, data analytics, or AI-driven tools is a must.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified Accountant in Portugal.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role in multi-entity or international environments.
  • Proven experience leading accounting operations, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a track record of developing high-performing accounting teams.
  • Deep technical accounting expertise with solid knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Strong experience working with external auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
  • Solid understanding of cash flow management, balance sheet integrity, and financial risk assessment.
  • Ability to partner with senior management by providing clear financial insights and supporting strategic decision-making.
  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes and systems.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, and commitment to data accuracy and financial integrity.
  • Experience with accounting systems and ERP environments; exposure to automation, data analytics, or AI-enabled finance tools is a must.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
