Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant who will manage the day-to-day accounting operations and ensure strong financial discipline for our Portugal business.

This Cargo is primarily accounting-focused, while also supporting essential administrative tasks such as vendor coordination, documentation, reporting, and internal office support. The role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, organized, and comfortable building processes from the ground up in a growing international environment.

Key Responsibilities

A) Core Accounting Responsibilities

  • Manage daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records and documentation
  • Maintain bookkeeping for:
  • Supplier invoices
  • Payments & receipts
  • Payroll support and wage records
  • Statutory payments
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain bank-related documentation
  • Track and manage:
  • Accounts payable & receivable
  • Expense records and supporting proofs
  • Vendor payments and compliance documentation
  • Maintain proper records for vendor contracts, pricing terms, and payment schedules
  • Support cost planning by preparing:
  • Budget estimates
  • Cost comparisons
  • Vendor rate checks and negotiation support
  • Coordinate with external accountants / auditors as required for filings, reviews, and compliance
  • Ensure timely support for tax-related documentation and compliance follow-ups
  • Maintain periodic checks on inventory-related financial control (where applicable)
  • Provide inputs for cost control and financial discipline across operations

B) Administrative Responsibilities (Secondary Support)

  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and office stakeholders for smooth day-to-day operations
  • Maintain structured filing of:
  • Official correspondence
  • Vendor documents
  • Employee paperwork and internal records
  • Support in setting up and maintaining simple SOPs and reporting formats for finance/admin workflows

Key Requirements (Must-Have)

  • Eligibility to work in Schengen countries (Valid Schengen passport OR valid work permission/authorization)
  • Strong accounting fundamentals: bookkeeping, invoice management, reconciliations, documentation discipline
  • High ownership and ability to work independently in a growing setup
  • Strong attention to detail, structured record-keeping, and process mindset
  • Comfortable coordinating with banks, vendors, and external partners
  • Microsoft tools efficient

Portuguese Accounting System (Important Note)

  • Prior experience with the Portuguese accounting system is an advantage, but not mandatory.
  • Candidates must be willing to learn the Portuguese accountancy system, statutory requirements, and compliance processes quickly with support from the business and/or external consultants.

Preferred / Advantage Skills

  • Prior experience supporting Real Estate / Hospitality / International businesses
  • Exposure to compliance documentation and audit readiness
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism
  • Portuguese language skills is preferred not mandatory, strong working English required
