JOB PURPOSE
- To provide elite-level medical care, injury prevention, and rehabilitation to professional football players at Estoril Praia, ensuring they are fit, available, and able to perform at their highest level.
RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Reports to: Head of Medical / Head of Physiotherapy
Management responsibility for: N/A.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess, diagnose, and treat injuries in the Men’s Primeira Team at Estoril Praia.
- Deliver evidence-based rehabilitation programmes to return players to play quickly and safely.
- Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans using clinical reasoning and data.
- Provide daily hands-on therapy (manual therapy, soft tissue treatment) to Primeira Team players.
- Design and implement injury prevention strategies, load management, and recovery plans.
- Provide pitch-side medical care at training sessions and matches.
- Conduct player medical screenings at appropriate time points (e.g. pre-season).
- Facilitate ongoing player monitoring and testing.
- Maintain accurate medical records and injury databases.
- Analyse injury trends and contribute to injury audit reviews.
- Educate players on recovery strategies, Injury prevention, and lifestyle and health behaviours.
- Work effectively as a member of the Performance & Medical department at Estoril Praia.
- Work collaboratively with and support the Men’s Primeira Team coaching and playing staff.
- To keep up to date knowledge and understanding of trends and best practices of sport science within professional Football.
- To take responsibility for your Continued Professional Development (CPD) to ensure that you attend regular courses, conferences and keep an up-to-date file of your CPD achievements.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education/Qualifications/Training:
- Degree in Physiotherapy (BSc or equivalent).
- Necessary healthcare registration to legally operate as a Physiotherapist in Portugal.
Specific Experience:
- Experience of working in a sporting environment.
- Experience working in a Football environment.
- Strong knowledge of sports injuries.
- Strong knowledge of rehabilitation methods.
- Working experience in the support and rehabilitation of athletes, with specific expertise in physiotherapy.
- Experience of translating evidence-based information into understandable advice for different stakeholders.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver physiotherapy services to athletes.
- Experience of understanding the requirements of athletes in a high-performance environment.
- Experience of working in gym-based and pitch-based settings.
- Advanced IT skills.

- This a full time role that includes work on weekends and evenings.
