About the Empresa

I am working with an agentic AI Empresa in the customer experience space. Their AI agents own the whole customer journey for consumer brands, across support, shopping and social, on a shared intelligence layer. The product already runs real volume in production. The engineering team is small, global and fully distributed.

About the Role

This role exists to close that gap. You take over engineering execution day to day. This is a hands-on engineering manager role, not a coordinator one.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery, about half your time. You own the weekly cadence for Channels and Analytics. You work with PMs and engineering leadership to surface and sequence priorities, including the ones nobody has written down yet. You bring structure to teams working in a fast-moving, low-process environment, organise backlogs, and unblock engineers before a problem becomes an escalation. You write and maintain the technical debt plans alongside the engineers, not for them, and act as a second thinker on integration strategy and capacity planning.
  • Developer experience, about a quarter. You improve the things that slow good engineers down. You do not need permission to start. You add structure where it buys speed and resist process for its own sake.
  • People development, about a quarter. You run 1:1s that leave engineers with clearer thinking, not just a status logged. You give hard feedback directly, and you make it land without bruising. You help senior engineers grow, including coaching the ones who want to move toward management, and you act as a backup hiring partner who can run a loop and hold the bar.
  • Leadership stays in the loop on what matters but out of the day to day. Hiring, scope changes and anything that reshapes the team are joint calls. Everything else is yours.

What good looks like in the Primeira 90 days

  • By day 30 you have run a couple of 1:1 cycles with each engineer, you own the Channels and Analytics weekly cadence, and you have mapped the codebase and met every integration owner.
  • By day 60 you have landed a concrete unblock in Channels that would not have happened without you owning the planning side, and the compliance work is no longer single-threaded through one person.
  • By day 90 a measurable delivery traces back to your planning rather than your coding, engineers bring you the problems they used to escalate upward, and the current lead has recovered around a full day a week.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years managing engineers in a product-delivery capacity, where you owned outcomes and not just people.
  • Still technically live. You have shipped code recently and you are credible enough that senior engineers route hard problems to you, not around you.
  • Genuine AI and LLM fluency. You understand agentic systems, evals and model reliability, not just the headlines.
  • Startup or scale-up experience with no process, no dedicated TPM and no safety net.
  • Comfortable managing senior engineers who do not need managing in the traditional sense. They need a thought partner, not a process owner.
  • Based in a European timezone, UTC to UTC+3.

Required Skills

  • Not a role for someone who needs a fully defined process to operate.
  • Not for someone who wants to redesign the org or build career ladders before shipping anything.
  • Not for someone whose answer to "what did your team ship?" is "that was a PM call".
  • If your proudest achievement is headcount growth, org structures or reporting lines, this is not the one, and neither is a VP trajectory pitch on day one.
